Monthly and annual trends in outgoing prohibited calls (2024/2025)
Definitions:
- Prohibited calls refer to calls made using a non‑authorized audio device (phone speaker, wireless earbuds, phone audio) while the vehicle is in motion
- Outgoing calls refer to calls made by the driver to another phone.
- Incoming calls refer to calls the driver receives on their phone.
- Unclassifiable calls refer to calls whose origin cannot be determined.
- Most prohibited calls made in cars, both in 2024 and 2025, are outgoing calls. They are therefore initiated by the driver. The driver is not distracted by someone else — they are the source of the distraction.
- Outgoing prohibited calls increased slightly in 2025 (+1.4%).
- Outgoing prohibited calls dropped sharply between April and June 2025.
