Types of prohibited calls

Definitions:

  • Prohibited calls refer to calls made using a non‑authorized audio device (phone speaker, wireless earbuds, phone audio) while the vehicle is in motion

  • Outgoing calls refer to calls made by the driver to another phone.

  • Incoming calls refer to calls the driver receives on their phone.

  • Unclassifiable calls refer to calls whose origin cannot be determined.

The trend is clear: drivers are making more and more prohibited outgoing calls. After a sharp increase in January 2025 (+3.5%), outgoing prohibited calls decreased slightly in January 2026 (–1%), but the situation remains concerning given that the distraction is initiated by the driver.
